As 2016 draws to a close we thought that we would wrap-up a few major events that have happened this year. Grab yourself a cuppa and let’s reflect together..
We started off in January counting down the days until the amendments to the Solas Convention came into force.
During the first month of the year we also saw the Modern Express, a pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) in trouble, listing dangerously in the Bay of Biscay…
February saw the staff celebrating EES’ 30 year anniversary! Not to overshadow this event was the announcement that the Antonov, the world’s largest aircraft, was to touchdown in Perth in May.
In May we were announced as finalists for the first time in the Fremantle Business Awards. The category – Marine Industry Excellence. This was also the month that the Antonov arrived at our airport.
The Australian Trusted Trader programme was also discussed in the month of May.
On the 1st of July 2016 the amendments to the SOLAS convention came into force. All containers shipped are now required to be accompanied by a VGM (verified gross mass).
In August we shared some amazing photos of the Rainbow – the gorgeous shipping container structure that is quite the sight in Fremantle.
Phil Gray, our Customs Manager, became a fellow in September. EES also celebrated our 30th anniversary with international guests, clientele and service providers at a glitzy gala event held at the Fremantle Maritime Museum.
In November we not only welcomed in Peak Season but we also were finalists at the annual Australian Shipping and Maritime Awards in Sydney. Geoff Hack, EES Managing Director, received a high commendation in the Maritime Service Awards category.
We can’t forget about the festive month of December. This month certainly has not disappointed with Tracy Ferguson being named for the second year running as the Student of the Year at the annual Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia (CBFCA) Christmas party. Fremantle Port was also host to the Ovation of the Seas – the biggest cruise ship to arrive in Australia.
If you’ve made it to the end of this post – congratulations. We’d like to thank you for your support this year – enjoy the festivities as you ring in 2017!
