NZ Container Home

David Fitzmaurice and his wife Joyce Wee loved the idea of building an unconventional home for their family . We think that they have succeeded!

Initially deciding to build the home from sixteen shipping containers, they ended up using twenty.  Joyce Wee stated “We would like a loft-style space where the children can ride their bikes from one end of the house to the other.”

During the building process the owners had many setbacks, causing delays and a blow out to the budget. The containers were left unpainted on the inside of the home to celebrate their raw beauty.

The building process was even featured on Grand Designs in New Zealand. Check out the trailer here:
