One of our valued readers alerted us to this inspiring project for housing Orange County’s homeless veterans in shipping containers. Check out this slideshow of this uplifting venture.
California had the largest number of homeless veterans in 2015: 11,311, or 24 percent of the total homeless veteran population in the U.S.
These shipping containers can provide shelters that are quick and economical whilst being permanent and have a homely feeling.
Potter’s Lane, the apartment project, will only be able to shelter a small amount of homeless veterans, but it is hoped that this design will provide inspiration to others.
Each 480-square-foot apartment will have a bedroom and dining area, a kitchen, a bathroom and two walls with floor-to-ceiling windows.
Construction is underway..
