Asian Gypsy Moths

It has recently been revealed that the Department of Agriculture has been working on preventing the infiltration of Asian Gypsy Moths into Australia.

Over the past few months, biosecurity officers have increased surveillance on cargo vessels that are at a higher risk of having infestations.

The Asian Gypsy Moth is a big eater, feeding on up to 600 species of trees and plants. The risk to Australia’s commercial and horticultural industries is considerable.

Thanks to the vigilance of biosecurity officers and the staff at the Department of Agriculture this pest, and many others like it, have not been able to call Australia home.
