A couple’s dream container home

After 10 years of blissful marriage, Regan and Libby Foster wanted to build their dream home in Adams County, Colorado.

Not brick, not frame, not logs.

“Shipping containers were always intriguing to me,” Regan Foster said.

Shipping containers have been steadily gaining popularity as an alternative building material for cabins and tiny homes.

The Fosters’ home is anything but tiny, made of nine 320 square-foot shipping containers. Set in place, along with other common areas built in, they make for a 4,000-square-foot domicile.

It’s so big, there’s even room for the mother-in-law.

From the copper counter tops to the solid hickory open shelves to the six-burner industrial grade gas stove, everything in the Fosters’ home is custom built.
The Fosters didn’t use shipping containers as a cost-cutter; they are more expensive to build with than conventional building materials,.

“The main reason I went with that was creativity,” Regan Foster said.

The house cost the Fosters around $500,000 to build, and it’s already appraised at $850,000.
