Super Typhoon Haiyan – Philippines

Known as Super Typhoon Haiyan, the world’s most powerful typhoon to hit this year, is causing mass evacuations across the Philippines today.

Typhoon Haiyan is currently generating wind gusts of up to 330 kilometers per hour and is set to hit this (Friday) morning.

Advancing with a massive 600-kilometer front, the storm is expected to hit areas that are still in recovery mode after a devastating storm in 2011 and also last month’s 7.1 magnitude earthquake.

Authorities say evacuations are taking place in many towns and villages in Haiyan’s path. Schools have been closed, ferry services suspended and fishermen ordered to secure their vessels.

Being battered with up to 20 major storms and typhoons a year, the Philippines has seen it’s fair share of destruction. Some scientists have said that climate change is making these storms more fierce and more frequent.

EES will advise you directly if this super storm will delay your shipping.

In the meantime, to our agents in the Philippines, stay safe during this wild weather.
