W.A. Citrus to Asia

Naval oranges and mandarins growing near Moora in Western Australia will soon be on the shelves of Asian supermarkets, as well as local vendors.

The 2017 WA citrus season is starting and will ramp up over the coming months.

AgriFresh grows the fruits over 200 hectares of land on what was once a mixed grain and sheep farm.

Managing director Joseph Ling said production would be up almost 60 per cent this year, and the trees would reach full production in four years’ time.

About 40 per cent of the fruit grown at AgriFresh goes to export markets, and Mr Ling hopes this figure will increase to 80 per cent in the coming years as the tonnage picked grows.

He said his company began developing markets in the Asia-Pacific region about five years ago in what he described was “a long and interesting process”.
