Keeping an eye on biosecurity

This month three businesses in Queensland have been recognised for their role in protecting Australia’s borders.

These companies came across serious biosecurity risks and alerted the Department of Agriculture immediately. Risks included timber pests (exotic termites and wood boring beetles) and unprocessed straw packaging – complete with roots and seeds from a consignment that originated in India.

These watchful companies have been awarded the Regional Biosecurity Commendation Award. Working alongside the Department of Agriculture, these shipments were treated and released accordingly.

Tina Hutchison, Regional Manager for the Department of Agriculture reminds people to be vigilant when it comes to preserving our country, “See, secure and report to do your part to help protect Australia’s unique environment.”

EES Shipping would like to remind any importers that if they find unexpected guests; insects, nests, soil or plant material in their imported products or packaging to contact us immediately.
