In April we advised you of a change that was pending for importers of timber and timber products.
With the implementation date of the 1st of September 2017 inching closer it is important to ensure that you are ready for this new requirement. These include:
- Additional documentation requirements for manufactured wooden articles: to supply a manufacturer’s or supplier’s declaration on in addition to a treatment certificate to provide assurance that goods have been stored to minimise risk of re-infestation by pests of concern.
- The proposed changes include extending the time between treatment to export for manufactured wooden articles from 21 days to 6 months, and a new requirement of a manufacturer’s or supplier’s declaration about appropriate storage after treatment. The declaration will support this extension of time between treatment and export.
The department explained that a longer allowable period to treat goods prior to export will benefit the industry, lower biosecurity risks and reduce non-compliance.
