Tianjin Port Explosions – UPDATE

The world is watching the devastating videos and images from the Tianjin Port Explosions.

With 112 people losing their lives and 95 still missing the death toll is continuing to rise.

We have been in constant contact with the Tianjin office of our agents, M&R Forwarding, and they have advised the following:

Some terminals are gradually resuming operation on a case by case basis, subject to approval from the authorities. Some vessels already departed, while other vessels are slowly operating or awaiting further communication. Vessel delays are therefore to be expected.

The traffic surrounding the port area remains frozen. Container pickup and return services can still not be arranged, thus depot operations remain halted. We are waiting for notice from the relevant departments with regard to the estimated recovery time and damage reports.

The handling of both import and export dangerous cargo containers has been completely banned. We have decided to cease the acceptance of new bookings with ETD between the 12th of August and the 6th of September, subject to further notice from authorities. The handling of on-boarding dangerous cargo from the rest of the world to Tianjin/Xingang is under discussion.

Focus on safety and security is at the heart of our Constant Care value and defines the way we do business. We sincerely regret any inconveniences.
