A Chinese-owned milk processing plant in South Australia is set to begin exporting milk powder to China via sea.
The Blue Lake Dairy Group recently officially opened its processing plant in the southeast of the state last week, with stage one of the two-stage project expected to enable the production of 20,000 tonnes of infant and adult formula.
Stage two is expected to involve a new $50m factory to convert milk into powder.
Demand for quality powdered milk from Australia has increased since the 2008 tragedy when six babies died and 300,000 became ill after drinking contaminated Chinese formula.
The Chinese-owned Blue Lake Dairy Group formed in 2015.
