Pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) vessel, the Modern Express, was en route from Gabon to Le Harve, France when it developed a loss of stability and subsequent list.
All crew members were evacuated in bad weather, with the stricken vessel being towed to Bilbao, Spain.
In order to prevent the massive vessel from running aground in France, an amazing salvage operation was launched with experts from SMIT Salvage sent to the scene within 24 hours of the disaster.
