Methamphetamine hidden in shampoo bottles

Intelligence collected by the Australian Crime Commission as part of Taskforce Eligo has assisted Australian Customs and Border Protection Services officers in ambushing a international mail package in Melbourne.

The package contained 11 shampoo and body lotion bottles. When ACBPS officers tested the liquid, it returned positive results for methamphetamine.

The exact weight and purity of the find will be determined at a later date.

A 20 year old Chinese National man has been arrested and will appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court.

He has been charged with the following:

  • Importing commercial quantity of a border controlled drug, namely methamphetamine, contrary to subsection 307.1(1) of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth); and
  • Attempting to possess a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug, namely methamphetamine, contrary to subsections 307.5(1) and 11.1(1) of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).

These charges carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and investigations in relation to this matter are ongoing.
