It’s a new week and we have yet another methamphetamine concealment to report on.
This story begins in Sydney when the dedicated team from Australian Customs and Border Protection Services (ACBPS) stopped a shipment at the Container Examination Facility in Sydney. The consignment originated in China and was manifested as a Textile Machine.
When the x-ray spotted irregularities, out came the drill and the ACBPS officers bored into the machine. The puncturing revealed a white powder which tested positive for – you guessed it – methamphetamine. The total seizure was approximately 20 kilograms.
The Australian Federal Police then arranged and executed a search warrant on a property in Strathfield and a 46 year old Taiwanese National was arrested. Several items from his home were also seized in the raid, including handwritten consignment documents along with cutting and opening tools.
This is just another prime example of Australian Customs and Border Protection Services and the Australian Federal Police working side by side, protecting our borders and our communities.
“Customs and Border Protection officers and the Australian Federal Police have yet again done an outstanding job stopping an illegal substance from reaching Australian streets,” Tim Fitzgerald, ACBPS Regional Commander advised.
The man has been charged by the AFP with importing a commercial quantity of border controlled drugs, namely methamphetamine contrary to Section 307.1 of the Criminal Code Act (Cth) 1995.
The maximum penalty for this offence is life imprisonment.
