Australian Customs and Border Protection Services (ACBPS) officers wound up the remainder of 2014 with another methamphetamine find.
The officers at the Melbourne International Mail Centre intercepted a package that was marked for delivery in Prospect, South Australia.
The package contained two large plastic containers, labelled as containing protein powder. The parcel arrived into Australia from the United States.
Once the containers were opened, it was revealed that they contained a top layer of cotton wool, which was sprinkled with coffee powder. Underneath the cotton wool, there was approx 3kgs of white crystalline discovered.
Initial testing of the powder indicated positive for methamphetamine.
A search warrant was carried out at the premises in Prospect, South Australia, with a 35-year-old woman from the Dominican Republic being charged with drug importation.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Taylor, the Officer in Charge of the South Australia (SAPOL) Drug and Organised Crime Task Force said this should serve as a warning to anyone contemplating bringing illicit drugs into South Australia.
“There is a strong probability you will be caught,” he said. “Don’t risk it.”
