Police in Madrid, Spain, have declared that they have made 35 arrests in conjunction to a drug smuggling racket that spans over Europe and Latin America.
The interior minister has been quoted as saying that the gang was “specialised in bringing cocaine from Latin America into Europe in shipping containers and on commercial flights.”
Investigations were carried out over several months in Spain, Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Ecuador and Peru.
More fruit, less cocaine..
Along with drugs being smuggled and detected on person, police also seized 315kgs of cocaine that was hidden in a shipping container of fruit in Belgium, Antwerp. Ten people were arrested in relation to this find.
The final seizure made in Spain wrapped up the investigation after 17 arrests were made after ecstasy, amphetamines, cocaine and hashish were found.
