Liverpool2 container port will begin to increase it’s throughput at the end of 2015 with developers purchasing 17 new Chinese Cranes.
The cranes will be semi-automated and remote controlled to enable the port to handle two large container ships at a time. The introduction of the Megamax cranes will increase productivity, dramatically cutting the time it takes to transfer containers from port to road and rail.
With dredging being carried out from last year (deepening the port to 16m) and the brand new cranes, Liverpool2 will be able to accommodate container ships carrying up to 13,500 containers .
Previously the Port was limited to vessels carrying less than 3,500 containers.
