A 37-year-old man is to be summonsed to appear in court after Australian Border Force (ABF) investigators found 335 vials of performance and image enhancing drugs (PIEDs).
ABF officers targeted the man after they intercepted an international mail package from China on 28 September 2016.
On 13 October, ABF investigators executed search and seizure warrants at the man’s residence in the Perth suburb of Kenwick. During the warrant activity, the officers seized the following PIEDs and prohibited weapons:
- 335 vials
- 10 bags of powder
- 11 tasers
- 3 knuckledusters.
The man will face a range of charges including:
- intentionally importing prohibited tier 1 goods, contrary to section 233BAA(4) of the Customs Act 1901, which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a fine up to $180,000 or both
- two counts of importing prohibited imports in contravention of section 233(1)(b) of the Customs Act 1901, and
- one count of possession charge under section 233(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1901.
ABF Commander Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Anthony Seebach, said the seizure highlights the work undertaken by ABF officers to combat this sort of illegal activity.
“This seizure demonstrates the ongoing efforts by ABF officers to stop illegal substances and other goods entering the community,” Commander Seebach said.
“In the wrong hands these drugs and weapons can be dangerous and this is another example of the ABF’s commitment to protect the Australian community.”
