ChAFTA – The very latest information prior to the 20 December 2015 start

As you would be aware, the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) has now been scheduled by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to enter into force on Sunday the 20th December 2015.

The Minister for Trade and Investment, the Hon. Andrew Robb, has stated that implementation of the ChAFTA “would immediately enhance our competitive position in the world’s second biggest economy which will be good for growth and job creation”.

The Chinese authorisation bodies that are able to issue the “certificates of origin (COO)” that are required to claim the ChAFTA are as follows:

1. AQSIQ – General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine where the actual certificates will be issued by provincial Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureaus, which are administered by AQSIQ; and

2. The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade
