Container trade through the Port of Fremantle is seeing an uptick in activity, according to the latest available trade statistics from the Port of Fremantle.
The first three months of 2018 have been busier on average than the previous two years, with monthly total throughput averaging 62,885 TEU for January, February and March 2018. The average for the same period in 2017 was 58,314 TEU; 58,146 TEU in 2016; and 58,035 in 2015.
Zooming in to last month, we find container throughput at the port to be 62,538 TEU a 6% increase on the previous month.
This was driven largely by an increase of overseas exports, which were up 18% to 31,865 TEU in March.
Most other trade categories saw modest increases or decreases in March, in comparison to the previous month. Coastal exports through Fremantle fell 42% to 666 TEU and total imports decreased 3% to 30,007 TEU.
