Ordering early for Christmas to reduce delays

WESTERN AUSTRALIA PORT OPERATIONS TASK FORCE – NOTICE TO IMPORTERS

As we are heading into the Peak Season for importers once again, the Western Australia Port Operations Task Force have released a notice reminding Importers of containerised goods through Fremantle Port to “play their part in reducing the risk of congestion, delivery delays and associated extra costs as Christmas approaches.”

Following on from the successful implementation of contingency arrangements in 2012, the WA Port Operations Task Force has continued working with industry to minimise the impact of trade build up over Christmas – New Year Peak.

The notice has been issued to reminds us that although container trade so far this year has flattened out, with totals year to date that are similar to 2012, this is no time to be complacent. The task force strongly suggests that importers who have ordered goods or are about to place orders should try to ensure arrival of cargo before the start of the peak period.
