Container numbers through Port of Fremantle in February showed an increase on the same month last year, but the numbers showed a solid decline on January.
Total container throughput at Fremantle over February came to 59,252 TEU – which is a decrease of 11% on January’s above-average throughput (66,864 TEU).
But last month’s total container throughput was 5% higher than the same month last year. This increase was largely driven by more overseas trade, up 6% from last year to 51,543 TEU in February 2018.
Coastal trade through Fremantle was up a more modest 3% to 7709 TEU last month. Coastal imports in February 2018 totalled 6570 TEU, while exports to other parts of Australia were 1139 TEU.
Turning to the overseas containerised cargo trade, Freo’s total throughput was 51,543 TEU, with exports clocking in at 26,973 TEU and imports at 24,570 TEU.
