NOVEMBER
Fremantle Port saw an uptick in containerised cargo throughput in the run-up to the Christmas season, with an almost record-breaking number of containers crossing the wharf in November.
The Port handled 67,832 TEU over the month, according to the latest available data from Fremantle Ports.
This is the highest monthly throughput the port has seen since November 2015 (when it handled 67,868 TEU), and last November’s container trade numbers were significantly more than the average for the past 12 months of 61,268 TEU.
November’s container throughput at the port was a 3% increase on the previous month’s numbers (65,965 TEU) and a 9% increase on November 2016’s container throughput (62,337 TEU).
Delving deeper into the numbers for November 2017, the month’s total exports were reported to be 31,184 TEU, down 6% from October’s 33,116 TEU.
However, imports were the real driver of November’s big numbers, with an almost 12% jump on October’s throughput to 36,648 TEU in November.
