Fremantle January Stats

The Port of Fremantle saw a slight dip in containerised trade volumes last month after a hefty December, but January’s total container trade volume was well above average.

The Port handled 66,864 TEU (twenty equivalent unit) in the first month of 2018 – higher than the average for the 2017 calendar year of 61,668 TEU, but a decrease of just 1% on December 2017’s 67,714 TEU.

The main driver of this decrease was fewer import containers from overseas crossing Fremantle wharves. In December, 28,063 TEU came from overseas, while last month, the volume dropped to 26,677 TEU – a decrease of 5%.

Total coastal trade increased slightly – 5% to 7255 TEU – offsetting the larger drop in overseas imports.
