Fremantle Container Trade is Up

Containerised trade through Fremantle Ports in August was significantly more than in any month this calendar year, and was a big step up on throughput in August 2016, according to the latest trade statistics from the Port.

Total container trade through Fremantle during August came to 64,677 TEU*. This is a 5% increase on the 61,427 TEU that came through the port during the same month last year. In fact, it was the largest single month in terms of throughput for containers at the port since October last year when the Port handled 64,899 TEU.

The Port’s total import and export volumes in August were split down the middle (32,294 TEU and 32,383 TEU respectively).

Coastal trade accounted for 13% (or 8323 TEU) of the Port’s total throughput in August. Of Freo’s coastal trade over the month, 1009 TEU (12%) was exported, and 7314 TEU (88%) was imported.

It seems as though Peak Season has arrived early to Fremantle this year!
