Extensions started at North Quay Rail Terminal

Work has commenced on the extension of the North Quay Rail Terminal in North Fremantle. The $31.4 million project is being funded by the Federal and State Governments with the major contract being awarded to Australian engineering and construction company York Civil.

Designed to increase the efficiency and capacity of the rail infrastructure that services Fremantle Port’s container trade, the extension is increasing the existing rail terminal from 400 metres to 690 metres. This expansion will hopefully reduce the growth of port-related truck traffic by allowing more containers to be moved onto the rail service.

Slight disruption have already been seen with these works and are set to continue until the end of June 2014 when the project is due for completion.
