For many years now, as an individual we have faced changes in the way we do our tasks, personally and professionally, I am talking about things like the transition to electric cars, Smart phones, smart Fridges, Robot Vacuums, smart lights, and not including the different social media platforms, just to mention a few of them that the population is using day to day.
Looking back, when all these new technologies came out, most of the population accepted the change and learned how to interact with them and took advantage for their own purposes, and I have to say is not different today, but with better tools. Referring to the work scenario we can see workplaces engaging to the current and future technology changes.
What can you remember about the way things were done back in the past when technology was not as advanced? A lot of printed paper, files, robust computers, faxes, everything had cable connections.
Just the other day I was playing that trivia game with questions about 80’s and 90s+ and it was very interesting to see how things have changed over the years.
But if we only go back 4 – 5 years ago, that specific time that everybody remembers during and after pandemic, technology took a big step in the way that business approached their target markets, introducing even more high-end technology as a business model.
The way that reporting is done, the different AI tools that help to improve efficiency and give the staff extra time to do other tasks became the new normality that organizations are taking part in to achieve their goals.
At EES we are leading all staff to streamline processes & enhance customer experiences, showing better and more efficient ways to do their tasks using AI Tools or generate and read reports more visual and dynamic format.
I have to say that it involves all staff in the process which has not been easy. Doing some research, I have learned that this is actually quite normal in this process, and it is also normal that you will encounter employees accustomed to do tasks in certain ways and not willing to a change but, this transition takes work, and some staff will join the process later down the line as part of the journey and then it will be worth the effort.
So, if you are in this same situation I want to tell you it is normal and it will take time. Being persistent is a good start, having a direction that supports the initiatives and being prepared and willing to invest in technology and training is essential to keep pace with evolving digital trends.
The plan with EES in this aspect is to create a culture where people enjoy learning and adopt the new changes, in other words what people call “Mindset”.
But What is Digital Mindset?
I will describe this as a “Change the way you look at the new digital world, be open to learn and battle the new changes without giving up, be creative and have dreams about how you would like your job being done”. Just think that crazy ideas can became a great project that can change our lives.
But if we want more technical definition Wikipedia describes just the word “Mindset” as “An established set of attitudes of a person or group concerning culture, values, philosophy, frame of mind, outlook, and disposition. A mindset could create an incentive to adopt (or accept) previous behaviours, choices, or tools, sometimes known as cognitive inertia or groupthink”, take the one you love the most.
I have read numerous articles and watched many videos to understand the resistance of change because I got frustrated and personally needed an answer, but now it is a bit clearer, and this depends on each individual and their desire of changing the way of doing things on their day to day and upskill.
But also, is the company’s duty to create an environment that motivates the staff to create new opportunities. At EES SHIPPING we are leading this path.
Recognizing the changes in digital technology have given us the opportunity to foster a digital mindset strategy across all staff that can help discover new opportunities to optimize the time and enhance the skills.
