**Please note that this fee increase has now been delayed until the 17th April 2017**
Stevedoring giant DP World Australia has announced substantial hikes in port access fees at its Sydney and Melbourne terminals.
The terminal have advised that from the 17th April 2017 the increase to the Infrastructure Surcharges will be as follows:
Melbourne – from $3.50 to $32.50 per container
Sydney – are now introduced at $21.16 per container
These fees are for all containers that are received or delivered into the terminal.
Currently there is an infrastructure surcharge in place at DP World’s Brisbane Terminal, currently there is no such charge at Fremantle Terminal.
Industry representative bodies Freight and Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers’ Association (APSA) are formally challenging this surcharge and will be raising the matter with the NSW Ports, the Port of Melbourne and the relevant Government stakeholders.
Surcharges such as these significantly add the the cost of international trade and directly affect the competitiveness of our commodity exports.
We will keep you informed on further developments.
