Latest ABF Finds

Today we thought that we would wrap up some of the finds made by the officers at Australian Border Force (ABF) in the last few months of 2016.

  1. Ephedrine ABC’s

Two men have been charged with importing 26.5 kilograms of ephedrine worth $2.3 million. ABF officers in Sydney inspected three cartons that arrived from China that were manifested to contain novelty letters of the alphabet (large plastic letters) as well as exercise equipment (exercise steppers).  The consignments were examined and deconstructed and they were found to contain a white crystalline substance that tested positive for ephedrine. Arrest warrants were carried out in Auburn and Berala with two men, aged 21 and 28 being arrested.

2.  Hydraulic Heroin

Three men have been arrested after approx five kilograms of heroin was discovered hidden inside hydraulic equipment in Melbourne.  The shipment of hydraulic arms arrived into Port from Thailand and it was ABF officers at the container examination facility that discovered the white substance.  Two men, one twenty one year and the other twenty seven year, both from Sunshine Northman and a 25-year-old Sunshine West man, were subsequently arrested by police.

3. Household Goods

Two Taiwanese Nationals have been charged after allegedly importing approx 20.6kgs of crystalline methamphetamine that has a street value of $20.6 million.  ABF officers in Brisbane intercepted an air freight consignment of household electrical appliances that arrived into the airport from Hong Kong. Upon examination, ABF officers along with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) discovered the drugs hidden inside the appliances.   Following a controlled delivery in Sunnybank, a twenty seven year old man and a thirty one year old man were arrested.

4.  Aircraft Cylinders

Three men have been charged following the interception of ten kilograms of methamphetamine in Adelaide. ABF officers began the examination of an air freight consignment that was labelled to contain aircraft cylinders. During the inspection, a white crystalline substance was found weighing approx three and a half kilograms. Two other packages were identified as containing similar concealment.   The men were arrested in the Adelaide suburb of Wingfield.
