Another drug concealment detected

A 21 year old Taiwanese man was due to face the Parramatta Local Court this morning – his charge – attempting to possess approximately 16kgs of methamphetamine ‘ice’.

The Australian Customs and Border Protection officers detected the methamphetamine at the NSW air cargo facility. The drugs were concealed inside eight metal shafts that originated in China.
It will be alleged that the man attempted to access the concealed drug by opening the shafts at a self-storage unit in inner-Sydney, which had been rented specifically for the purpose of receiving the shipment.

The 16kgs of methamphetamine has a street value of approx $12,800,000.

The maximum penalty for this offence is 25 years imprisonment and / or a fine of $1,275,000.

Investigations into this matter remain ongoing.
