Sad news out of Bremerhaven as one person is killed during the unloading of container vessel Maersk Karachi.
It was the 52 year-old crane driver that was killed during the discharging of the vessel when the structural members of the crane that he was operating failed. This caused the crane gondola/cabin to fall to the bottom of the ship’s hull – approx 40m.
The incident caused some damage to approx ten containers along with slight damage to the vessel itself.
The cause of the incident is not yet known. Investigations are on-going.
