Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Measures Update

The emergency measures for the 2018/2019 stink bug season are constantly changing.

For the latest update from the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources we suggest that you head over to their website.

New seasonal measures will apply for goods shipped on or between 1 September 2018 and 30 April 2019 inclusive.

The most recent update from the Department was an updated policy allowing for onshore treatment of LCL (less than container load) and FAK (freight all kinds) goods.  This goes hand in hand with the policy for FCL (full container loads) to be also treated in Australia.

We have listed some bullet points below:

  • Emergency measures apply for goods being imported from Australia from the USA, Italy, Germany, France, Russia, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Georgia.
  • Certain goods are being targeted.  The full list of tariff numbers are listed on this website.  Even if your goods are not listed, but are imported as LCL among goods that are listed, your consignment will need to be treated.
  • The treatment options for Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) are: Heat Treatment, Methyl Bromide Fumigation or Sulfuryl Fluoride Fumigation.
  • If you are having your goods treated at origin, the treatment facility must be registered as an Offshore BMSB Treatment Provider. If they are not approved, or a fraudulent treatment certificate is provided, your goods will be exported from the country or destroyed.
