ATO assistance during COVID-19

The Deputy Comptroller General (DCG), Bradley Armstrong , who heads the ABF Customs Group, which has been given the responsibility of taking the deferral of Duties / GST to Treasury and ATO.

The DCG is encouraging importers to reach out to the ATO to explore arrangements that have been introduced during this difficult time.

ABF have engaged with Treasury and others on the request to defer duty and GST.  Treasury has advised that the ATO is continuing to accept new applications to the GST deferral scheme, and will consider all available administrative concessions for those businesses who currently lodge and pay on a quarterly basis that switch to monthly in order to be eligible for that scheme.  Treasury has also advised that the ATO will issue communications for importers and brokers about the advantages of the GST deferral scheme and a link to access COVID-19 support that may be available to them.
