W.A. Meth Seizure

Arrests have been made in Western Australia after methamphetamine was uncovered hidden in an import shipment.

The operation began when Australian Customs and Border Protection Services (ACBPS) intercepted and inspected a package that arrived in Perth from Thailand. The shipment, a motor cycle muffler, underwent examination, with a white powder being discovered.  The substance tested positive for methamphetamine. The weight of the find was 926.7 grams, classing it as a commercial quantity.

A controlled delivery was arranged by the Australian Federal Police to an address in Forrestfield. Two men, both aged 23 and a woman, aged 46, have been arrested after they attempted to collected the packages.

The three were each charged with one count of trafficking in a substance, the substance being a controlled drug, namely methamphetamine and the quantity trafficked being a commercial quantity, contrary to subsection 302.2(1) of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).

The maximum penalty for each offence is a fine of up to $850,000 and/or 25 years in prison. Further arrests and charges have not been ruled out.
