New largest containership

New largest containership

There’s a new ship on the block.

Knocking the Maersk Triple E series off the top spot in vessel container capacity is the CSCL Globe.

At 400 meters long (basically the same as the Maersk vessels) the CSCL Globe is actually less wide than it’s competitors vessels at 58.6 meters (the Triple E series is 59 meters). Despite being slightly smaller, the CSCL Globe has the capacity to load 1,000 more twenty foot containers, taking a whopping 19,000 twenty footers. That’s a lot of cargo.

The massive amount of volume isn’t the only feature that makes this vessel unique. The CSCL Globe is rocking a huge engine. So big, in fact, that it is physically the largest engine ever constructed. Check it out..

That’s a 1.85 meter high person, just to give you an idea of the size of this whopping engine.

Some stats on this awesome piece of machinery:

  • It’s a MAN B&W 12S90ME-C Mark 9.2 type low-speed main engine
  • two-stroke engine
  • rated at 69,720 kW @ 84 rpm, although has been de-rated to 56,800 kW
  • stands a whopping 17.2 meters tall (that’s over 56 feet!)

The CSCL Globe will be part of a five vessel series that are all being built in South Korea.
