Woman arrested after meth find

When your printer is out of toner, don’t be reaching for these cartridges..

It’s another week and another fantastic find by the good officers at Australian Customs and Border Protection Services (ACBPS).

The latest discovery of methamphetamine has been made at the Sydney Air Cargo Facility last month.  Officers stopped a shipment containing three packages, all marked to the same consignee. The boxes were described to contain printer cartridges.

A close physical examination of the contents revealed that the cartridges contained a white powder, not toner.  A similar package arrived and was intercepted a few days later – also addressed to the same receipt.  This package was also reviewed and more white powder was discovered.  Initial testing of the substance confirmed that it was methamphetamine.

It’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it..

The ACBPS and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) then arranged a joint operation, with a controlled delivery being made to an address in the Melbourne CBD.

A 27 year old female Hong Kong National was arrested after she receipted and accessed the packages.

She was charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug, namely methamphetamine contrary to subsection 307.1(1) of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth) and attempting to possess a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug, namely methamphetamine, contrary to subsection 307.5(1), of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).

“The AFP and ACBPS are committed to targeting importations of illicit substances on every scale. Low-quantity, high-volume importations pose a significant risk to the community,” AFP Manager Serious and Organised Crime Scott Lee Commander Lee said.

“This importation is at the higher end of the scale for mail items, and today’s arrest is yet another example of Australian law enforcement agencies sharing information, intelligence and resources to bring criminals to account.”
